BOMBAY BASSMENT

Widely popular, Bombay Bassment is an award winning outfit from Mumbai that combines sounds of hip-hop, reggae, funk and drum & bass. With a definitive thought of forming a drum & bass band, drummer Levin Mendes and bassist Ruell Barretto got together and combined forces with Robert Omulo aka Bobkat, a veteran emcee, rapper and DJ from Kenya who formulates his lyrics and sound around the rhythms of his life and Chhandreshekhar Kunder aka Major C, a DJ with over 15 years of experience of the Mumbai hip-hop scene under his belt.

Featured in The Indiecision’s list of Most Promising Indie Acts of 2010, Bombay Bassment hasn’t disappointed critics. Winning multiples awards in the first two years since their formation, the band won Best Emerging Band at the 7th Annual Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards, the Converse Original Band Hunt in 2011, and Gold for Best Hip-Hop Group, Silver for Best Hip-Hop Song and Bronze in the Genre Bending Act categories at the South Asian Indie Go Music Awards.

Bombay Bassment has played at some of the premier music festivals across India including the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, Ziro Festival, SulaFest, GO:Mad Festival and the Reunion Kaloobang Festival in Reunion Island. Over the years, the band has shared the stages with Snoop Dogg, The Wailers, Gentleman’s Dub Club, Young the Giant, Will & The People, and Apache Indian who joined them on stage for their rendition of Manu Chao’s King of the Bongo.

The band released their self-titled debut album in 2014 through Sony Music. In June 2016, their second album titled Bombay Bassment VIP was released. Their latest one ‘OK Dance’ came out earlier last year, in 2017.
