Sandunes X Richard Spaven

In February 2019, we worked with Red Bull Music to produce two very special shows – a unique collaboration between Sandunes and Richard Spaven. The showcase brought together two artists from truly different backgrounds; Sandunes who’s sonic identity has evolved alongside her journey from pianos to production and Richard Spaven, a genre defying drummer who has toured and performed live with likes of José James, Flying Lotus, The Cinematic Orchestra and more! Here is a quick look at the two shows – at G5A in Mumbai and Shed 9 in New Delhi.



Mixtape @ Palm Expo

We were at Palm Expo this year between 30th May – 1st June to work on one of its most loved highlights, Harman Live Arena! This edition marked the 10th year of Live Arena and we are glad to have been a part of it handling backstage, artist management, stage management & lighting. Here’s a quick look at our work over those 3 days and what went into implementing a smooth show.



Disrupt

With Disrupt in 2019, we took the leap by branching it into a two-day spectacle featuring names we always hoped to have on our bill one day – from globally renowned acts like Zero 7 and LEFTO to some of the most exciting names from our country such as Abhi Meer, Kaleekarma / कलीकर्मा and more! We are truly grateful to each one of you and our wonderful artists for the love and support! We couldn’t have pulled this off without our partner Social offline & antiSOCIAL, and all the sponsors who came together to make #Disrupt18 one for the books! Here’s a look back at some of our favorite moments from the festival.




Mixtape @ BUDX MUMBAI

In March 2019, we worked on the debut edition of #BUDX in Mumbai together with Vice and Budweiser curating its domestic lineup, handling artist management, artist liaison and lighting for headliners Boiler Room and Divine. Here’s a look at the 2-day through our eyes and the work that goes into bringing a festival to life.



Artists Unite

A gathering of hundreds of artists, writers and cultural practitioners, Artist Unite’s crowdfunded initiative ‘Chalo Lal Qila’ brought together people from across the country on the 2nd and 3rd of March at Red Fort in Delhi to speak of democracy, togetherness and of an India that belongs to all its citizens through music, theatre, films and performances.




Magnetic Fields Festival

16th century opulence meets futuristic dance floor boogie at this music festival held in December in the deserts of Rajasthan. The small village of Alsisar plays host to underground electronic and live acts from all around the world who lean towards music’s eclectic edge. A palace turned resort lures revellers from all over India to come and lose themselves among its sunny terraces, opulent courtyards and verdant lawns.  Mixtape has worked closely with the festival’s founders ever since its inception to handle the artist management, stage management, logistics and lighting design for the festival.



SulaFest

Spread across two stages at the sun dappled Sula Vineyards in Nashik, SulaFest has cemented its position as India’s premier gourmet world music festival. Drawing some of the biggest names from the world music arena, SulaFest makes it a point to deliver music on a scale never before seen in India. From wine tasting to food bazaars and a flea market, the festival has something for everyone. Mixtape has been a key partner in developing the festival over the last 5 years.




Udaipur World Music Festival

Conceptualised by Sanjeev Bhargava of SEHER, the Udaipur World Music Festival takes place over three days in the lake city of Udaipur. With diverse music from all over the world, Udaipur World Music Festival showcases the lake city in all its glory with multiple venues spread across the city. Indian names find their own place alongside worldwide talents. We support the festival with our expertise in artist and stage management.



India Bike Week

Bikers from all four corners of the country converge on Goa for India Bike Week, Asia’s biggest biking festival. A place for bikers to meet other like-minded individuals and show off their rides, IBW also hosts some of the biggest names in bike design and manufacture, markets for biker accessory shopping, training academies and track racing. Music is an integral part of the festival with two stages dedicated to live and electronic music. We curate the music lineup and assist in artist and stage management for the festival.



ASEAN – India Music Festival

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-India Dialouge Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, GOI in collaboration with SEHER organized ASEAN-India Music Festival 2017 between 6th to 8th October at Purana Qila in New Delhi. The three-day festival witnessed performances by the likes of Papon Live, The Raghu Dixit Project, Bipul Chettri and The Travelling Band, Avial and Shankar Ehsaan Loy from India and bands like The Ugly Band (Myanmar), The Ransom Collective (Philippines), Tim De Cotta (Singapore) and Asia7 (Thailand) among others. We helped SEHER in artist and stage management for the festival.



South Asian Bands Festival

Held at the iconic Purana Qilla in New Delhi, the South Asian bands festival hosts the best of talent from the SAARC region. Put together by SEHER and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and the Ministry of External Affairs, it features an extensive lineup of artists from Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Maldives as well as some of the biggest Indian names. A 3 day celebration of music and culture, Mixtape is proud to be involved with the production and stage management for the festival.



MTVi Xtreme with Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators

World renowned guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, the legendary Slash played 2 major shows in India in 2016. He brought along the power packed voice of Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy with the able backing of the Conspirators. India’s first rock music and adventure sports festival, MTVi Xtreme had Mixtape programming the right mix of Indian support acts for the festival across Mumbai and Bangalore.



Eden Festival

A Bhavishyavani Future Soundz collective presentation, Eden brings to the table a forward thinking lineup, combining music and art for the perfect melange of sound and culture. Eden is an urban festival that unites a dynamic community of thinkers and creators. We collaborated with Bhavishyavani Future Soundz on the production of the entire festival across 3 different locations in Mumbai.



Kala Ghoda Arts Festival

The country’s largest multicultural festival, Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is a 9-day celebration of art, theatre, dance, music, food, culture and a lot more. Since the first edition which dates back to 1999, the festival has been organized by Kala Ghoda Association and hosts a variety of events spread across different locations in the southern region of Mumbai.



MTV Indies Spiro

An urban takeover spiralling across Mumbai showcasing the best in subcultures including music, comedy, and movies. The 2015 editions saw Pretty Lights, The Glitch Mob and a bunch of Indian acts take centre stage. We helped the MTV Indies crew in providing a surreal lighting experience for the showcase.



Boiler Room

Boiler room made its debut in India in 2016, putting the country’s thriving music scene on the international map. The platform known for curating the best in underground music showcased performances by both international as well as homegrown talents such as Actress, Josey Rebelle, RHL, Sandunes, Oceantied to name a few.



FRWD

Mixtape’s flagship property FRWD showcases cutting-edge live electronic acts from across the country and globe, along with state-of-the-art sound, lights, and stage and creative design. Some of the artists we have hosted include Telefon Tel Aviv (LA), The Micronaut (Germany), A/T/O/S (Belgium) Sandunes and Kumail.

LOUISE BURNS (CA) 2018


A 20-year old veteran of the music industry, Louise Burns is in the front of Canada’s indie renaissance. We had the pleasure of hosting this acclaimed multi-instrumentalist for her first shows in India in November 2018, traveling to Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi for 4 club shows and also a slot at NH7 Weekender.


I M U R (CA) 2018


Vancouver’s breakthrough electronic outfit I M U R made their Indian debut in November 2018 with 6 shows, including slots at the country’s most popular festivals NH7 Weekender and Magnetic Fields Festival. The three-piece band has been turning heads over the past years with their blend of experimental, soul and hip-hop sounds, and their cinematic flair.  Here’s a recap of their tour and their experience in the country.


Flava D (UK) 2018


From selling beats on Myspace to becoming the UK’s most booked artist, Butterz signee Flava D has become one of the faces of UK dance music. Ever since her debut release in 2013, Flava D has made a rapid ascent to the top of the music charts. Apart from touring internationally, she has collaborated with bigwigs like Wiley and My Nu Leng, and is a part of the Garage supergroup ‘TQD’ alongside Royal-T & DJ Q.


Tinariwen (ML) 2017


Echoing the voices of the repressed Tuareg community, Tinariwen’s powerful music is deeply influenced by years of war and exile. Formed in a Gaddafi training camp in 1979, this group of nomadic musicians has now earned a reputation as one of the best live bands in the world. Their music often described as ‘Blues from the desert’ tells tales of revolution, overcoming persecution and desert survival. Considered to be music’s true rebels, Tinariwen has earned countless accolades and the attention of high-profile fans including Carlos Santana, Thom Yorke, Chris Martin, Robert Plant, Henry Rollins, U2 and Brian Eno. Having won the hearts of millions across the globe by singing in their native dialect Tamashek, their popularity is a true testament to the universal power of music.


La Fine Equipe (FR) 2017


La Fine Equipe is a group of four DJs/producers – Oogo, Chomsky, Mr. Gib and Blanka, who have been redefining the art of beat-making since 2008. With their signature blend of instrumental hip-hop and electro flavored with soul, funk and jazz, the collective has taken a seat as worthy ambassadors of the new French independent electronic music scene. Each of them being seasoned artists in their own right, their unique music personalities combine to deliver live performances that are extravagant displays of sampling, turntablism and teamwork.


Clap! Clap! (IT) 2017


An internationally acclaimed producer and performer, Clap! Clap!’s production is a unique blend of global dance – weaving the influence of Chicago’s footwork into a tapestry of West African percussion sample. Known for his infectiously energetic live performances, Clap! Clap! has played to large audiences across Europe and Japan. His music has been supported by Gilles Peterson and featured in GTA V, Boiler Room, Ninja Tune’s Solid Steel mix series, and the FABRIC mix CD series


Preditah (UK) 2017


From hitting the road as the tour DJ for Mercury Award winner Skepta, to producing tracks for JME and releasing some of the top club hits in the recent years, Preditah is one of the most recognizable names in UK Garage/Grime. All in the space of a year, Preditah has mixed for Boiler Room, appeared on the cover of RWD Magazine, graced the pages of Mixmag, and toured around Europe.


Last Train (FR) 2017


A true-blue rock band from the East of France, Last Train is a story of 4 childhood friends – vocalist Jean-Noel Scherrer, guitarist Julien Peultier, Drummer Antoine Baschung and bass player Timothee Gerard, who have been making music together for over a decade. Their first two EPs ‘The Holy Family’ and ‘Fragile’ received critical acclaim, launching their music career. The band has performed to sold-out audiences, opening for renowned musicians like Muse and Rival Sons. In 2016, Last Train won the biggest French festival for upcoming bands, Le Printemps de Bourges, and toured across Europe with a whopping 40 shows in two months.


Colt Slivers (FR) 2017


Hailing from the city of Strasbourg, Colt Silvers comprises of vocalist Tristan, bass player Nicolas, guitarist Florian and drummer Julien. Termed as the French Alt-J by the popular magazine Les Inrockuptibles, the band produces intense indie electro rock which is inspired by pop culture. Colt Silvers offers a cocktail well shaken with rock energy and electro rhythms. The band has released 3 albums and 1 EP so far and has performed over a hundred shows across Europe, USA and Asia.


Telefon Tel Aviv (US) 2017


A man of many monikers, Joshua Eustis is best know as Telefon Tel Aviv. Since the early 90’s, Telefon Tel Aviv has played a significant role in shaping what was then called IDM. He also served as a touring member for Nine Inch Nails and has collaborated heavily with Maynard James Keenan’s solo project, Puscifer. Joshua’s tracks are delightfully subtle – lulling sounds combined at times with heavy synth that exposes the mastery of electronic music.


Dubioza Kolektiv (BIH) 2017


DK are known for their fresh take on hip-hop, reggae, dub, rock and Bosnian folklore. The Bosnian band has established itself as the most popular live outfits to come out of Eastern Europe. The band was considered the No. 1 band at the 2016’s edition of Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival, which is Europe’s leading conference and showcase festival focusing on European music.


A/T/O/S (BE) 2017

With sultry vocals, bass-heavy sound and trip-hop beats, A/T/O/S’s vocal-production pairing has been hailed as one of the best by many tastemakers. Signed on to the British dubstep pioneer Mala’s Deep Medi Musik, they are one of the only acts on the prestigious label with a unique sound different from its signature dubstep signees.


Sau Poler (ES) 2017


Among the new wave of producers emerging from the cultural hub of Barcelona, Sau Poler has managed to capture the ears of many with his exotic electronic production – grooving basslines and shuffling beats that melds house, R&B and disco. Since 2013, he has released several EPs on Amsterdam’s Atomnation label as well as remixed a plethora of artists including Touch Sensitive for the Australian label Future Classic. His first EP “A Soundless Echo”, confirmed him as a newcomer to watch for and the more recent “Memorabilia” has only served to underline his elegance and sensitivity. Sau Poler’s work is organic, modern and intimate – uplifting dance music with a subtle Balearic undertow.


Micronaut (DE) 2017


Considered by many as a one-man orchestra, the German multi-instrumentalist and producer The Micronaut has constantly been on the rise since his first album release in 2012. His music is a collage of 2-step, broken bass rhythms, catchy melodies, samples and live guitar with a tinge of subliminal drama. The Micronaut’s live performance is enthusiastic, straightforward and power-packed – beyond common, beyond clubbing. He recently released his 3rd full-length album, ‘Forms’ on Acker Records Germany.


Corvec (RE) 2017


Contemplative and oneiric, Vincent Corvec describes his project as the soundtrack of inner life. Solo or accompanied on stage by singer Marie Lanfroy and by video-maker Pierre Moulin’s projections, this trio from Reunion Island creates a hypnotic aura through cinematic visual and a musical synergy of piano and voice.


Bjorn Torske (NO) 2017

Bjorn Torske has been active as a DJ and music producer for almost 20 years. He is largely responsible for shaping the Norwegian electronic music scene. Having extensively worked with labels like Smalltown Supersound and Sex Tags Mania, he’s been an inspiration to the artists like Todd Terje and Lindstrom. He also joined Norwegian ambient/techno producer Geir Jenssen as a keyboard player on a European tour with Biosphere in the early 90s.


Bill Brewster (UK) 2016


Bill Brewster is one of the legends from UK’s dance/disco/funk circuit. A founding resident at fabriclondon, author of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life and editor of DJhistory.com, Bill’s contribution to the world of music is truly inspiring. He has been working in the industry’s fringes for almost 30 years including the running of various labels from Twisted UK and Forensic in the ’90s to Disco Sucks and Anorak. Armed with sensitivity and sense of occasion only a few DJs posses, Bill knows how to work the crowd in the best possible way.


Success (FR) 2016


Success is an electro-rock band from France whose music is a reconciliation between rock and dance floor sounds. Guided by the incredible Mister Eleganz, Success charms, intrigues, provokes and in brief never leaves its audience indifferent.


Rodney Branigan (UK) 2016


London based Rodney Branigan is a gifted lyricist, vocalist, and a multi-instrumentalist. Rodney Branigan has played a number of prestigious music festival around the world like Glastonbury, Green Man Festival, Acoustic Festival of Britain, Blues on the Farm, Clockenflap to name a few. T


Epic Empire (FR) 2016


Paris based future bass artist Epic Empire has built up a formidable reputation for his meticulously structured sets and bass heavy, hip-hop influenced electronic productions. Epic Empire was nominated as Best Newcomer at DJ Mag (France) Awards in 2016.
