The Indian Ocean Music Market (IOMMA) is a program of meetings and exchanges between music professionals practicing in and around the Indian Ocean region while building a bridge to the players of the music industry coming from Europe, Australia, America and Asia. IOMMA facilitates cultural exchanges and shared experiences. It aims to professionalize players within the regional music industry and develop networks and markets within this region, as well as create gateways to the rest of the world.
The year 2016, The Indian Ocean Music Market (IOMMA) had About 200 local and international professionals (programmers, turners, producers, institutions, media) from more than 20 countries who were present, 24 groups from all over the Indian Ocean (Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa, India, China), 3 days and 4 evenings of musical discoveries and More than 500 appointments between professionals outside and local .
The sixth edition of the market took place from 29th May to 1st June 2017 in Reunion Island in partnership with Scènes Australes, with the support of the European Union and the Réunion Region. The program consisted of conferences during which a panel of professionals met on a theme or issue that concerns the music sector in the area, and proposed solutions to improve the evolution of the artists of the Indian Ocean; one-to-one meetings where artists and / or local professionals had the opportunity to meet professionals from other regions (programmers, labels, tourneurs, managers) as part of a face-to-face meeting; and finally, and showcases or performances wherein about twenty groups of artists from Réunion and the Indian Ocean performed for an audience.
We were happy to be able to witness the happenings at the IOMMA, here’s what our Founder, Naveen experienced there.
Indian Ocean Music Market (IOMMA) is one of the best markets I have been to. It’s my 4th year this time and I had a great time meeting some of the most influential people in the music industry from across all the markets in the world. This time the focus for me was on the Asia Alliance. I met with people from Korea, China, Singapore and other asian countries and we are working towards creating an alliance between the asian markets. We are still in discussion phase but hope to achieve our goal soon.
